Actor Vikrant Massey, known for his versatile performances across various media, has recently made headlines with his role in the new Netflix film Sector 36. A New Challenge in Sector 36
Released on Netflix last Friday, Sector 36 marks a significant departure for Vikrant Massey, who has predominantly been seen in positive roles. In his conversation with Jagran, Massey explained that his decision to embrace a negative role was driven by his desire to explore new dimensions in his acting career. He stated, “When I read the script for Sector 36, I saw an opportunity to showcase a different facet of my acting skills. The character of Prem Singh was unlike any role I had played before, be it in television, web series, or cinema.”
Massey also mentioned that he did not take seriously the advice from some quarters advising him against the role, particularly after the commercial success of his previous film, 12th Fail. He emphasized that for him, the most critical factor was whether he believed in the story and his character’s potential. “It was essential for me to be part of a well-crafted story. A good narrative is what draws me to a project,” he added.
Understanding Criminal Psychology
In preparation for his role, Massey delved into criminal psychology to better understand his character. He noted that while criminals do not have a distinctive outward appearance, their mental state and past traumas significantly influence their behavior. Massey said, “Through my research, I found that childhood trauma is a common factor among many criminals. This understanding helped me portray my character more authentically.”
Reflections on Industry Trends and Upcoming Projects
Massey also touched upon broader industry trends, highlighting the success of non-star-studded films like Stree 2 and Munja. He expressed optimism that such films, irrespective of their budget, are being evaluated based on their quality rather than the star power involved.
On the topic of his upcoming film Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan, where he plays a blind musician, Massey mentioned that he is not feeling pressured by the praise Rajkummar Rao received for a similar role in Sreekanth. He acknowledged the significance of preparing thoroughly to bring authenticity to his role. “Although I’m excited about Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan, I’m still in the process of preparation and want to ensure that I deliver a performance that feels genuine,” Massey shared.
Reflections on Past Projects
Regarding his previous film Blackout, Massey expressed pride in the project despite it not reaching the audience as expected. He reflected on the experience with a positive outlook, acknowledging that every project offers valuable lessons.
