Shaitaan Movie Story
The story revolves around Kabir (played by Ajay Devgn) and his happy-go-lucky family, consisting of his wife Jyotika, daughter Jahnavi (portrayed by Janhvi Bodivala), and son Dhruv (played by Angad Raj). Their vacation takes a dark turn when they encounter a mysterious stranger named Vanraj (played by R. Madhavan), whose seemingly innocent help turns out to be a heavy burden for Kabir.
Vanraj, who believes himself to be a god, casts a spell on Jahnavi using black magic, manipulating her into joining him willingly. Kabir is left grappling with the desperate struggle to save his daughter from the clutches of this malevolent force. As the narrative unfolds, tensions rise, and the family’s seemingly idyllic life descends into chaos.
Performances
The strength of Shaitaan lies in its cast, particularly R. Madhavan’s chilling portrayal of Vanraj and Janhvi Bodivala’s mesmerizing performance as the puppet-like Jahnavi. Ajay Devgn and Jyotika deliver solid performances as the helpless parents caught in a nightmare.
Technically, the film excels with Sudhakar Reddy and Ekantika’s cinematography capturing the eerie ambiance flawlessly. Amit Trivedi’s haunting music adds to the suspense, while Sandeep Francis’s sharp editing keeps the pace engaging throughout.
However, the film falters in its second half, where the plot seems rushed, and certain elements feel underdeveloped. Questions about Vanraj’s motives and the lack of consequences for his actions leave some loose ends untied, detracting from the overall impact.
Despite these shortcomings, Shaitaan offers a refreshing departure from typical Bollywood horror tropes. Instead of relying on jump scares and cheap thrills, it delves into the realm of psychological horror, exploring themes of manipulation and vulnerability.
