The Beginning of Their Love Story
Mridula shared that she first met Pankaj during her brother’s wedding when she was in the 9th grade and he was in the 11th. Their connection was instant, but due to societal norms, they had to keep their relationship a secret. Interestingly, Pankaj’s sister later married Mridula’s brother, which complicated matters further.
Strict Instructions from Her Mother
As their relationship grew, Mridula’s mother began to suspect something was amiss. She advised her daughter to address Pankaj as “bhaiya” (brother) to avoid any gossip. However, Mridula chose to call him “Pankaj ji” instead, humorously noting that she now simply refers to him as “husband.”
Family Support and Cultural Challenges
Despite the difficulties posed by caste and societal expectations, Mridula’s father stood by her decision to marry Pankaj. Their families had reservations, particularly regarding how Pankaj would support Mridula. Ultimately, the couple married on January 15, 2004, overcoming the hurdles that stood in their way.
Mridula’s candid reflections highlight not only their personal journey but also the broader societal issues related to acceptance and tradition in relationships.
