Kanguva Movie Review: A Disappointing Attempt at Grandeur
Bollywood Mascot: The much-hyped film Kanguva promised a grand cinematic experience, blending historical fantasy with modern action, but unfortunately, it fails to deliver on almost every front. Despite the promotional blitz and heavy investment in visual effects (VFX), the film ultimately leaves audiences with a sense of disappointment, proving that flashy visuals cannot make up for a weak storyline and underwhelming performances.
Set in a fictional empire around 1070 AD, Kanguva follows the story of a king (played by Suriya) and his reincarnation as a police commissioner in the present day. The film’s central premise—revolving around reincarnation, power struggles, and empire-building—has potential, but the execution is lackluster. The plot meanders, failing to engage or captivate viewers at any point. There’s a distinct lack of emotional depth, and the narrative struggles to maintain coherence across its dual timelines.

Suriya’s portrayal of both the regal king and the modern-day police officer comes across as uninspired. While he is undoubtedly a talented actor, here his character lacks the gravitas needed to make the role compelling. Disha Patani, who plays the female lead, has little to do, with her screen time and role both being disappointingly minimal. It feels like her casting was more about adding a familiar face to the movie, rather than serving the story in any meaningful way.
Bobby Deol, too, fails to leave a lasting impression as the villain. Despite the promotional focus on his role, his performance is overshadowed by the film’s lackluster writing, and his character doesn’t have the impact that was promised in the lead-up to the film’s release.
In conclusion, Kanguva is a film that relies heavily on its marketing rather than substance. Despite its visual spectacle, it falters in terms of story, character development, and overall execution. Rather than spending time and money on this film, it would be far more rewarding to explore better alternatives available on OTT platforms.

A visually impressive but narratively weak film, Kanguva fails to live up to its hype. Despite stunning visuals and a star-studded cast, the lackluster storyline and underdeveloped characters leave a lot to be desired. A missed opportunity for an epic saga.
