Regina Cassandra Bold Statement on Bollywood and South Cinema
The debate between the South Indian film industry and Bollywood has been ongoing for years, with actors from both sides often expressing their views. In this context, South actress Regina Cassandra has made headlines with her recent remarks about the stark differences between the two industries, especially as she prepares to work alongside Sunny Deol in the upcoming film Jaat.
In an interview with ETimes, Regina highlighted the contrasting dynamics of both film industries. She pointed out that while South cinema does not view language as a barrier—thanks to the prevalent practice of dubbing—Bollywood places significant emphasis on self-promotion and networking. Regina stated, “In the North film industry, attending promotional and networking events is advised to target urban audiences. On the other hand, in South cinema, the competition is less about self-promotion. I’m not someone who can sell myself for work, and I find forced networking uncomfortable.”
Her candid remarks have sparked discussions about the pressures faced by actors in Bollywood, particularly regarding the expectation to engage in self-promotion. Regina’s comments shed light on her personal discomfort with these practices, contrasting them with her experiences in South Indian cinema.
