Realization After Her Father’s Passing
During a conversation at a ‘Marshall’s Good Stuff Social Event,’ Priyanka opened up about how her perspective on festivals and family evolved after her father’s passing. She recalled, “In my 20s, I missed countless family birthdays and Diwalis. Work would take me to Europe, where Diwali wasn’t celebrated, so it didn’t feel as significant to me. I would often skip these celebrations without much thought. But everything changed after I lost my father. No Diwali after that could bring him back.”
Priyanka admitted that her father’s illness and his eventual passing left a lasting impact on her. She understood how fleeting life is, realizing that amidst all the pressures, there is so much to be grateful for, especially time spent with loved ones. The experience made her value family moments deeply, especially during festive times.
The Diwali Spent in a Hospital
During a press interview for her film Mary Kom, Priyanka shared an emotional memory of Diwali that stands out. While everyone else was celebrating with lights and joy, she was by her father’s side in a U.S. hospital as he fought a battle with cancer. The occasion was marked by silent prayers rather than celebration, as Priyanka wished for her father’s recovery. She has often spoken about her close bond with him, even getting a tattoo that reads “Daddy’s Little Girl” as a tribute.
