Bollywood Mascot: In a surprising political move, the North Indian Development Army (UBVS) has extended an invitation to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi to contest the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Currently imprisoned in Sabarmati Central Jail, Bishnoi has garnered attention not just for his criminal activities but also for this unusual political offer.

Political Proposal Amidst Controversy

The UBVS, a registered political party, sent a letter to Bishnoi, urging him to run for election in Maharashtra. Party President Sunil Shukla emphasized that their party members would ensure Bishnoi performs exceptionally well in the elections, promising to help uplift his community.

In the letter, Shukla expressed pride in Bishnoi being a North Indian from Punjab, stating, “We see a bit of Shaheed Bhagat Singh in you.” He pointed out that people from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand, who are marginalized in Maharashtra, should have the right to representation.

Bishnoi’s Criminal Background

Lawrence Bishnoi, born on February 12, 1993, in Punjab’s Fazilka district, is known for his involvement in serious criminal cases, including extortion and murder. He has been incarcerated since 2015 and is linked to various violent incidents, including threats to Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The Bishnoi gang, which operates not just in India but also in countries like the UK, Canada, and the USA, is reportedly made up of over 700 shooters.

The recent assassination of Baba Siddiqui has further complicated matters, as his murder is believed to be connected to the Bishnoi gang. Bishnoi has previously threatened Salman Khan over the actor’s involvement in a blackbuck poaching case, demanding an apology from Khan on behalf of his community.

Community Representation and Political Aspirations

In his letter to Bishnoi, Shukla emphasized the party’s commitment to fighting for the rights of North Indians, particularly marginalized groups like OBC, SC, and ST communities, who have faced discrimination due to their ancestral origins. The UBVS aims to be a voice for these communities and believes that Bishnoi’s candidacy could significantly impact the upcoming elections.

The invitation to Lawrence Bishnoi to contest in the Maharashtra Assembly elections raises eyebrows not only due to his criminal history but also because of the unusual intersection of crime and politics. As the UBVS seeks to capitalize on the socio-political sentiments of North Indians in Maharashtra, the implications of this offer could reshape the political dynamics in the state.
