Kajol recently revealed that she had plans to leave the film industry after completing just three movies. However, a valuable suggestion from Shah Rukh Khan made her rethink that decision. Shah Rukh encouraged Kajol to learn the nuances of acting, suggesting that understanding the craft would help her enjoy the process more.

Kajol Wanted to Quit Acting Early in Her Career
Kajol admitted that the constant workload had left her exhausted, and she initially felt that she only wanted to take up films with limited roles. Reflecting on her third film, Udhar Ki Zindagi, she shared how she felt emotionally drained and was ready to walk away from the industry at the young age of 18.
In an interview with India Today, Kajol recalled Shah Rukh’s impactful words. At the time, she found it surprising when Shah Rukh told her that she needed to learn acting. His advice caught her off guard, as she was confident she was already doing a great job.
“I remember finishing the film, and Shah Rukh said to me, ‘You know, you just need to learn how to act.’ I thought, What is he talking about? I believed I was doing fantastic work!” Kajol shared with a smile.
Advice from Shah Rukh Khan that Made a Lasting Impression
Although Shah Rukh’s words initially puzzled her, Kajol soon realized the importance of understanding the finer aspects of acting. She mentioned that this advice played a crucial role in her decision to stay in the industry and develop her craft further.
Reflecting on her experience, Kajol said, “When I was shooting for Udhar Ki Zindagi, I told my mom, I’m done. At 18-and-a-half years old, I felt I had reached my limit. I told her, I can’t do this anymore—I can’t cry for scenes, use glycerin, or act like this. I just wanted to do films with a few scenes and some songs.”
She revealed that she had even signed four such films, intending to take a step back from serious roles. However, it was only after those projects that she truly began to grasp the technicalities of acting.
Discovering a Love for Acting
Though Kajol initially struggled with the pressures of the film industry, Shah Rukh’s suggestion inspired her to view acting in a new light. Over time, she found joy in improving her skills and embracing the challenges that came with it. Today, Kajol is celebrated as one of the finest actresses in Bollywood, with a career spanning decades.
