Jayasurya Denies Sexual Harassment Allegations, Calls Case ‘Fabricated’

Malayalam actor Jayasurya recently denied all sexual harassment allegations against him, following questioning by the Kerala police on Tuesday. Refuting the accusations, he described himself as a “living martyr” who is being falsely implicated.

Jayasurya Calls Allegations False and Fabricated

During the interrogation, Jayasurya stated, “I completely deny these allegations. This is a fabricated case, and I don’t even need anticipatory bail.” Expressing his concern, he added, “It’s disturbing that people are making such false claims against others. At least I have a platform to defend myself, but many people don’t. False accusations like these can destroy families and disrupt lives.”

The actor emphasized that he will fight the case legally to prove his innocence, saying, “I am facing two baseless accusations. One woman has been making statements against me in multiple places, but she has also retracted them several times. I will keep fighting legally until these false claims are dismissed.”

Second Harassment Case Filed Against Jayasurya

The Kerala police recently registered the second sexual harassment case against Jayasurya. The allegations date back to 2012-13 when a female co-actor accused him of misconduct on a film set near Thodupuzha, Kerala. Following the complaint, the Kerala government set up a seven-member investigative team to look into the matter. Charges have been filed against Jayasurya under Sections 354 and 354C of the Indian Penal Code, which deal with assault and sexual harassment.

Hema Committee Report Sparks Wave of Allegations in the Industry

The accusations against Jayasurya come in the wake of increasing reports of sexual exploitation in the Malayalam film industry. To address the issue, the Kerala government had established a three-member committee in 2019, led by retired Justice Hema. After four years of investigation, the committee submitted a 233-page report on August 19, 2023, revealing instances of harassment by several prominent figures in the industry.

Following the release of the Hema Committee report, numerous actresses have come forward with allegations against influential actors and filmmakers, triggering a broader conversation on misconduct in the industry.
