Mallika Sherawat Talks About Gender Discrimination and Her Mother’s Depression
Mallika Sherawat has made a much-anticipated return to the comedy genre, appearing in the movie Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, starring Rajkummar Rao and Tripti Dimri. Fans are ecstatic to see her back on the silver screen. Recently, in an interview, Mallika opened up about her childhood, revealing some shocking details about her family life.

Family Discrimination After Mallika Sherawat Birth
Mallika Sherawat shared that she was born in Haryana, where she faced significant discrimination from her family. She revealed that when she was born, no one in her family was happy. The actress said, “I received no support from anyone, neither from my mother nor my father. No one in my family stood by me.”
Mallika Sherawat Faced Discrimination at Home
In the interview, Mallika also discussed the deep-rooted patriarchy that influenced her upbringing. She revealed that her parents treated her and her brother differently, solely because he was a boy. “In our society, girls are considered a burden,” Mallika said. “As a child, I couldn’t understand these things, but now I do.”
She further elaborated, saying, “They used to say, ‘He’s a boy, send him abroad, educate him, invest in him.’ All the family’s wealth would go to the boy, and eventually to the grandson. As for girls, they would marry and leave, so they were seen as a burden.”
Given Everything But Not Freedom
Mallika also revealed that while her family provided her with many things, including a good education, they never gave her the freedom she longed for. “My parents gave me everything…a good education, but not an open-minded attitude or freedom. They never tried to understand me. When I was born, there was mourning in my family. I’m sure my mother went into depression.”
Mallika’s surprise appearance in the film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, has been a hit among fans. She plays the role of ‘Chand’ in the movie, and her performance has once again won over audiences.
